Black History Month - The Windrush
On Wednesday October 30th, 2019, all children in Year 1 and Year 2 attended special workshops run by The Freshwater Theatre Company, as part of our work linked to Black History Month and The Windrush.
With help from the actress, Emily, children recreated the journey from Jamaica to England, from packing their suitcase and saying goodbye to loved ones to boarding the ship with Lord Kitchener. Children explored the difficulties of finding a room and work in a foreign and not necessarily friendly country. Through the use of actions, dance and acting, they gained more of an in-depth knowledge of the topic and explored both the emotional and practical aspects of migration.
