Welcome to the Year 1 page.
We look forward to sharing all the fantastic learning that happens in our Year 1 classes.
To begin the academic year 2020-2021 we read the story ‘Silly Billy’. This book is all about a little boy who feels anxious and afraid of many things. In the story he makes worry dolls to tell all his worries to so he feels better. The children made their own worry dolls, and kept them in class to tell any worries to. Have a look below at some of the worry dolls the children have made.
Each morning children come into class and place their name card on an emotion board to let their friends and teacher know how they are feeling. This enables teachers to identify children who may be feeling upset or anxious coming into school, and may need some time to talk about their feelings.
Our topic this term is Heroes. The theme for our topic is ‘not all heroes wear capes’. Children identified professionals who are real-life heroes, such as doctors, nurses, police officers and firefighters, who take care of us and keeping us safe. Children thought about which real-life hero they would like to be when they grow up, and made badges to wear to around the school.
In English we have been reading the story Supertato. Children have been taking part in lots of predicting and oral retelling of the story. They thought about what emotions the different vegetable characters in the story would be feeling, and then wrote some speech for the characters. Scan the QR codes below to listen to us retell the story.
